RUSTOM: is a 2016 Indian crime thriller directed by Tinu Suresh Desai starring Akshay Kumar, Ileana D'Cruz, Arjan Bajwa, Esha Gupta,Pawan Malhotra,Sachin Khedekar.
The film is based on the real life incident of Naval Officer K.M. Nanavati and businessman Prem Ahuja.
PLOT: Rustom Pavri (Akshay Kumar) is an extremely principled naval officer, whose world revolves around his duty and his dearest wife Cynthia Pavri (Ileana D'Cruz). The world around Rustom Pavri shatters completely when he discovers that his wife is having an affair with Vikram (Arjan Bajwa). His anger towards the entire situation triggers him to kill Vikram by shooting him on the spot. Rustom Pavri, then, surrenders himself before the law.
What happens after that, are a series of courtroom drama between Rustom Pavri versus Vikram's sister Preeti (Esha Gupta) and her extremely capable lawyer Laxman Khamgani (Sachin Khedekar).
What is the ultimate verdict of the court? Does Rustom Pavri get convicted for the murder of Vikram? Will Rustom Pavri be able to prove his innocence in the case is what forms the rest of the film.
PERFORMANCES: Akshay Kumar is the backbone of Rustom, delivers such a spotless and flawless performance in this role by staying extremely true to his character. Lending him able support is Ileana D'Cruz as his wife Cynthia Pavri. Despite having limited scope as far as performance is concerned, Ileana D'Cruz holds her own with her restrained performance.Arjan Bajwa is decent as well. Kumud Mishra (in the role of a newspaper editor), Usha Nadkarni (as the servant), Sachin Khedekar (as Public Prosecutor Lakshman Khangani) and Pawan Malhotra (as Inspector Lobo) too have strong parts and keep the movie together.
MUSIC: composed by Arko Pravo Mukherjee, Raghav Sachar, Ankit Tiwari, and Jeet Gannguli.Music is is pretty average. The songs "Tere Sang Yaara","Dekha Hazaro Dafaa" are good.
The storyline becomes slightly predictable as it progresses. Tinu Suresh Desai has done a decent job as a director.
Overall,Rustom can be watched for its story and most importantly Akshay Kumar's performance.
Best dialogue of the film: "Vikram towel sirf paanch rupay mein jo marne ke baad bhi nahi utarta..."
