NEERJA: is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language biographical thriller film directed by Ram Madhvani starring Sonam Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Yogendra Tikku, Shekhar Ravjiani.
PLOT: Neerja Bhanot (Sonam Kapoor) is the purser at Pan Am Flight 73 Airlines. She's also a successful model living with her doting mother Rama Bhanot (Shabana Azmi),an ever encouraging father Harish Bhanot (Yogendra Tiku) two brothers in mumbai.Neerja had earlier been in an abusive marriage. The ill-fated flight to New York on which Neerja is the head purser gets hijacked in Karachi by the Libya backed 4 armed Palestinians of the Abu Nidal terrorist group. Her extraordinary courage and presence of mind saved the lives of most of the passengers as she put others before herself. She would have celebrated her 24th birthday on the 7th of September, 1986. Instead, her bullet-ridden body comes back to her devastated family.
PERFORMANCES: Sonam Kapoor has delivered the best performance of a lifetime. she carries it entirely on her shoulder. She looks earnest, scared, benevolent and bold, all at the same time.Shabana Azmi adds another feather to her illustrious cap. The entertaining way in which she speaks Punjabi, the state of temporarily losing one's mind and the way she becomes Rama Bhanot is a good enough reason in itself to watch the film. Yogendra Tiku as Harish Bhanot is very effective in instilling fearlessness in his daughter. One of the terrorists by the name of Khalil looks every bit a hard core terrorist with a maniacal bent of mind.
MUSIC: is composed by Vishal Khurana.'Jeete Hain Chal' and 'Gehra Ishq' are wonderful compositions.
Saiwyn Quadras' smart and gripping screenplay is the backbone of Neerja. Each element, from the narrative structure to the recreation of a 1980s aeroplane, the costumes, styling and Vishal Khurana’s excellent background score are directed towards giving the film its authentic feel.
At 122-minutes, the film stretches towards the end, but you are helplessly ensnared in its magic.
Overall, Neerja is a MUST MUST MUST watch film.Don't you dare to miss this film.
