PHOBIA: is a 2016 Indian psychological thriller film, directed by Pavan Kirpalani starring Radhika Apte, Satyadeep Mishra, Ankur Vikal, Yashaswini Dayama.
PLOT: Mehak (Radhika Apte) is a vastly talented Artiste. She meets with an unfortunate mishap that traumatises her to a great extent. It is discovered that she is afflicted with agoraphobia. It is a phobia where the patient is paranoid about going in public places, especially marketplace. Shaan (Satyadeep Mishra), a close friend takes the responsibility of Mehak and takes her to a friend's house. Mehak was having issues with her sister and her family due to her panic attacks. Mehak had issues with Shaan too.At the new apartment, Mehak befriends Nikki (Yashaswini Dayama), a college-going girl who lives in the neighbourhood. Her other neighbour Manu (Ankur Vikal).Mehak develops serious allegations against Manu and what follows is a series of mishaps. How she is consumed by the fear of actual and anticipated situations which permeates her whole being and her struggle to cope with it, forms the crux of this film.
PERFORMANCES: Phobia rides on the blazing talent of Radhika Apte. She’s in practically every frame but you never tire of watching her.Her fears and how she deals with imaginary situations, are real and palpable, making you sit on the edge of your seat.Satyadeep Mishra is terrific as the guy who's grappling between being a friend and a lover.Ankur Vikal does full justice to his role.
Director Pawan Kripalani does an excellent job with the script and manages to deliver a fairly unique experience. The first half is taut and gripping but the script does sag into the second half and resolves with a climax that might be too abstract for mainstream taste. Jayakrishna Gummadi's cinematography is engaging and surprising at many a juncture. There are moments when you think the story is falling into typical horror traps but ‘Phobia’ stays mostly its own film.
Overall,Phobia is a very good film & its a must watch....
