VEERAPPAN: is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language biographical film written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The film is based on the real-life Indian bandit Veerappan and the events leading to Operation Cocoon, a mission to capture and kill him.[1][2][3][4] The film stars Sandeep Bharadwaj, Sachiin J Joshi, Usha Jadhav, and Lisa Ray.
PLOT: Different task forces couldn’t kill or capture Veerappan (Sandeep Bhardwaj) in more than 15 years. He is responsible for killing 184 people (97 of them are police officials & forest officers),
900 elephants. So the project has been handed over to a cop Kanan(Sachin J Joshi). He involves Shriya (Lisa Ray),a policeman's widow who willingly becomes a part of the operation against Veerappan, an untrained civilian, in a highly confidential plan to eliminate Veerappan.Does Kannan single handedly become successful in nabbing Veerappan when thousands of his fellow officers have failed and perished what forms the rest of the story.
PERFORMANCES: Sandeep Bharadwaj looks extremely convincing and looks like the real Veerappan. Right from the mannerisms, expressions, body language and finer nuances, he scores from the word go.He acted also very well.Sachiin J Joshi excels in his role of a STF officer who lives with the sole aim of nabbing Veerappan. He exhibits aggression, angst, anger and helplessness in the most convincing manner, with a body language to match. While Usha Jadhav as Veerappan's wife Muthulaxmi does a decent job with her character, Lisa Ray, who initially seems to be struggling with emotions, gradually becomes at ease with it.
MUSIC: composed by Sharib-Toshi & Jeet Ganguly."Khallas" song from the film Company has been remade & reused here. Its superlative background music (John Stewart Eduri) complements the film.
This time Director RGV lands up with his own style of story telling & becomes quite succesful. A special mention here goes to the veteran make-up artist Vikram Gaikwad for being responsible for the magical transformation of Sandeep Bharadwaj into Veerappan.Movie has pace.Camera work is good. The film script (R.D. Tailang), is convincing and believable. The climax of the film is enjoyable, as much as the ultimate elimination scene of Veerappan.
Overall,Veerappan is surely watchable movie.
