MANIHARA

MANIHARA: is a bengali horror thriller film directed by Subhabrata Chatterjee starring Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Sohini Sarkar, Argha Deep Chatterjee, Neel Mukherjee, Biplab Chatterjee, Manasi Sinha, Late Kunal Padhi, Rii.It is adaptation of Rabindra Nath Tagoreé short story of same name.

PLOT: Former CBI officer and private investigator Rudrajit Roy (Chiranjeet) while coming from Bolpur after spending weekend trip faced car break down at middle of the road near village crematorium. He sends the driver to the town for bringing mechanic. Then one stranger came and started talking to Rudra. The stranger introduce himself as Madhusudan Ghosh(Argha Deep Chatterjee). To spending time, they told each other a real life experience as story.Rudra told that 2yrs ago he was roped in by industrialist Arun Chowdhury (Neel) to probe the mysterious disappearance of his wife Monideepa (Sohini) with all her arnaments. The case is still unsolved and Rudra hopes he will surely solve it.Then Madhusudan told the story of  wanna be painter Maddy(Argha Deep) & Nipa(Sohini). They love each other but Maddy was reluctant to take responsibily. So Nipa married to other man but they met again after some some critical situation faced by Nipa.
Both stories are interconnected. How Rurda solved the mystery, where is Monideepa gone, what happend to Maddy were rest of the film.

PERFORMANCES: Sohini shines again and did a commendable job.She manages to portray her sensuous femininity, her obsessive lust for jewellery and her thirst for true love quite well.Chiranjeet is good.Arghya Deep is not impressive. Biplab Chatterjee as Mady's landlord Ramen Babu and Biswanath Basu as inspector Nimai Maal are very good. They bring some comic relief by their acting.

1st half of the film is very good & has very interesting plot .When it comes to the storyline of 2nd half, it seems the script needed some more work.

Overall,Manihara is not a good film but well attempt by the debutant director.

[This film unnecessarily and excessively promoting one particular jewellery brand]
